Majority of Canadians Support a Youth Climate Corps, According to New Polling

In an exciting new national survey conducted by Abacus Data, 65% of Canadians aged 18-35 support the idea Youth Climate Corps (YCC).

In a time where the climate crisis is no longer a distant threat but a pressing reality, these polling results should be a call to action—both for more people to join this movement and for the government to realize we won’t back down.

One of the most noteworthy aspects of the survey is the support the Youth Climate Corps receives across political affiliations. 92% of NDP supporters, 91% of Liberals, 85% of Bloc, and even 64% of Conservative respondents express either support or acceptance of the creation of a YCC. This shows that the urgency of climate action transcends political boundaries and that a transformative program like the YCC could unite all of us.

The support for a national Youth Climate Corps indicates that young people across so-called Canada are not just concerned about the climate crisis – they are ready to do something about it.

The proposed 2-year apprenticeship YCC program, complete with paid education, would empower young people to contribute meaningfully to the fight against the climate emergency while gaining valuable skills and knowledge. The inclusion of paid education in the program also means less young people going into debt to receive an education. The YCC would turn no one away, breaking down barriers and ensuring that all who wish to contribute are given the chance.

We can win this program by bringing it into public discourse and continuing to pressure the government to spend what it takes to create a Youth Climate Corps.
